Choosing the right haircut for your face can make all the difference to how you come across. If you want to look your best, it’s not just as simple as rocking up to the barbers and choosing the first style that comes to mind. The right hairstyle can help to accentuate your assets and disguise your flaws, improving your appearance tenfold, so it’s important to choose wisely when you sit back in the barber’s chair. If you are stuck for inspiration, or you simply fancy taking your hair in a new direction, check out our guide to choosing the best haircut for your face.
Those with a round face should add height and volume to their haircut. A quiff would work well, keeping the face from looking overly round. Going shorter on the sides would also give a narrower appearance, balancing out your face’s proportions.
Square shaped faces tend to have a strong, masculine aesthetic, so if you want to accentuate this then go from a short, cropped style, which would allow the face to be the focal point. Again, go as short as possible on the sides so as to narrow the face as much as possible.
With an oblong face you should avoid taking length at the sides too short, as this will only emphasise its height. Having a slight fringe can actually reduce the height of the face, giving it more balanced proportions, as can a beard, which can widen the face.
As is the case when choosing a pair of sunglasses, the oval face offers the most versatility due to its naturally well-proportioned features. Go for an on-trend slick-back or buzz it all off; the choice is yours.
If you have a triangular face then growing the hair slightly longer hair on top will balance out the wide jaw and pointed chin. Given that the head shape is narrower towards the top, hair with volume will increase width, again giving it more balance.
