Swiss luxury watchmaker Zenith have partner with iconic British motoring brand Range Rover to create a rugged off-roader’s watch.
The new El Primero Range Rover was unveiled at the launch of the the carmaker’s new SVAutobiography Dynamic model, an SUV that focuses on blending luxury and handling, and packs a 5-litre V8, bespoke alloy wheels and chromed quad tailpipes.
The watch is designed to mimic the car itself. Durable, with a 42mm aluminium case, and bearing the Range Rover logo, the ‘clean’ appearance of the watch is said to echo the minimalist dashboard controls of the car.
An unassuming slate grey dial, three chronograph sundials and a winding crown paired with push-pieces grace the timepiece – and the the oscillating weight and the retaining ring for the transparent case back are engraved with Zenith’s logo.
Each Zenith El Primero Range Rover comes on a black rubber strap – with an optional Range Rover navy perforated calfskin leather option included.
And, whilst prices for the watch – and its corresponding car – are yet to be announced, the brands believe theirs to be a match built on strong foundations.
“The match between our two brands is very strong,” said Aldo Magada, president and CEO of Zenith – a reference to the year 1969, when Zenith launched their first self-winding chronograph movement and the first Range Rover hit the roads.
“The Zenith El Primero is one of the most distinctive watch designs ever produced, in my view,” added Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer. “Therefore it has been imperative to honour and respect this iconic design. It had to remain unmistakably an El Primero, but allude to Range Rover DNA.”
