Zenith launch a Chronomaster to celebrate the America’s Cup

The Land Rover BAR Team Edition is the newest iteration of Zenith’s El Primero

Last November, Zenith and Land Rover BAR – Ben Ainslie’s America’s Cup racing team – announced their partnership. Now, the pairing has become a little more tactile, with the release of a new El Primero limited edition chronomaster.

Incorporating the best of Swiss technology and innovation, together with British design inspiration, the watch has inherited the DNA of the famous 1969 El Primero, which remains of the the world’s most precise series-made chronographs. Developed and produced by the Manufacture of Le Locle, this is a watch that has won over 2,000 chronometry prizes – so what better to base the Land Rover BAR watch on.

A 45mm diameter steel case houses the famous El Primero 400B automatic chronograph movement, and features an integrated column-wheel construction that beats at a cadence of 36,000 vibrations per hour. This latest iteration of the iconic watch is also water-resistant to 200 metres and comes equipped with a new black rubber strap coated in carbon fibre – the same material used in the construction of the team boat.

The case back also bears Sir Ben Ainslie’s lucky number, 3, which has featured on all his winning boats. Zenith and the new Chronomaster El Primero Sport Land Rover BAR will be supporting the Land Rover BAR team during the entire thrilling America’s Cup and the goal of taking the trophy, the oldest in world sport, back to British waters for the first time in 165 years.
