Your dog can now smell like Jo Malone

The British fragrance house has teamed up with WildWash to launch its first dog shampoo, with Tom Hardy’s French bulldog Blue giving it his seal of approval.

There was a time when owning a dog required little more than a lead, a bowl and a willingness to go outside in the rain. Things have changed. Our four-legged friends now have designer coats, carefully considered diets, increasingly luxurious beds and, as of this month, their very own Jo Malone London grooming products.

Yes you heard right, Jo Malone London has launched a dog shampoo. The British fragrance house has teamed up with fellow British brand WildWash to create the Orange & Cedarwood Dog Shampoo, marking Jo Malone London’s first move into the world of dog grooming. And, naturally, this isn’t your average bottle of canine shampoo.

The collaboration makes rather more sense than you might initially think. WildWash specialises in naturally derived pet-grooming products and has built a following among professional groomers and dog owners, while Jo Malone London knows a thing or two about making everyday rituals smell considerably better.

Each bottle of Jo Malone London x WildWash Dog Shampoo features an illustration of one of four dog breeds. With four unique dog breed illustrations to collect

The resulting shampoo uses naturally derived essential oils of orange and cedarwood, creating a refreshing lather designed to cleanse and freshen your dog’s coat while leaving it with a healthy-looking shine. Beyond its headline notes, the formula also contains ingredients including aloe, glycerin and a selection of seaweed extracts.

But perhaps the best endorsement comes from Blue Hardy, the French bulldog belonging to actor Tom Hardy. Blue has previously appeared alongside his owner in Jo Malone London campaign films, Hardy is the face of the house’s Cypress & Grapevine Cologne Intense, and has now been recruited to help launch the new shampoo.

Jo Malone London even transformed its Marylebone townhouse into an enormous “Dog House” for two days to celebrate the launch, complete with an oversized inflatable dog’s head covering the building. Subtle? Not especially. Fun? Absolutely.

The packaging is equally playful. Each 285ml bottle features one of four collectible dog-breed illustrations. Order online and the particular dog you receive remains a surprise until the bottle arrives; visit a Jo Malone London store and you can choose your preferred illustration, subject to availability.

At £18, it is also rather more accessible than you might expect from the fragrance house. And considering the amount of money many of us already spend on our dogs, adding a little Jo Malone London to bath time hardly seems the greatest extravagance.

After all, man’s best friend deserves to smell the part.
