Welcome, gentlemen, to Hardy Amies. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have heard of them. If you haven’t, a little bit of background: the iconic Savile Row tailor made a name for himself as an authority in menswear after writing a regular style column for Esquire, which was eventually then turned into his bestselling book in 1964, The ABC of Men’s Fashion. The book garnered so much attention and was so widely regarded that it is still in publication today, with gentlemen all over the world returning to it time and time again for the definitive guide the dressing for the occasion. His eponymous menswear brand, Hardy Amies, had made waves in menswear as the most accessible and modern Savile Row tailors. Sir Hardy was even the first ever designer to host a men’s only catwalk for fashion week in 1961 – kudos.
The two rules that Hardy Amies has followed throughout his career as a designer are simple, but have guaranteed the brand enduring success. First is the importance of respecting heritage.
