Watch of the Week: Tudor Ranger 36mm
With a new 36mm case and refined “Dune White” dial, Tudor’s latest Ranger distils the brand’s tool-watch heritage into its most balanced and wearable form yet.
- Words: Harry Jarman
Standing out from the hugely successful Black Bay line is no easy feat. Yet in late 2025, Tudor managed exactly that with the latest evolution of the Ranger, the brand’s modern interpretation of the classic field watch.
Originally reissued in 2022 with a 39mm case, the Ranger has now been introduced in a 36mm fully brushed stainless steel case, paired with a new “Dune White” dial, and it’s a winning combination. The more compact proportions feel purposeful and considered, reinforcing the Ranger’s utilitarian roots while broadening its everyday appeal.
The watch is available on either a NATO strap, a ‘Jacquard’ fabric strap produced by France’s legendary weaver, or a stainless steel bracelet. Each option brings a distinctly different character, and all work remarkably well with the Ranger’s understated design language.
From a brand perspective, Tudor has reinforced the Ranger’s tool-watch credentials through its partnerships. These include its historic association with the British North Greenland Expedition of the 1950s, as well as its current role as official timekeeper of the Dakar Rally, tackling the white dunes of Saudi Arabia’s Empty Quarter. Both underline that this is a watch designed to perform in the most demanding environments.
I was lucky enough to wear the new 36mm Ranger on a NATO strap, and the size feels spot on. It’s an effortlessly understated timepiece. The dial, in particular, feels more balanced and legible than its larger predecessor, with bold black hour markers and the signature 3, 6, 9, and 12 numerals that nod to the vintage Tudor Ranger models. The slimmer profile, now just 11mm thick, only adds to its wearability.
Powering the watch is the COSC-certified Manufacture Calibre MT5400, offering an impressive 70-hour power reserve and 100 metres of water resistance, more than sufficient for daily wear and adventure alike.
The Black Bay Fifty-Eight will probably always be my favourite Tudor. That said, the Tudor Ranger 36mm comes a very close second. It feels like the brand has truly hit the nail on the head with this release.
