Watch of the week: Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Qualite Fleurier

Introducing the timepiece that has passed some of the watch world's hardest tests...

When you reach the dizzying heights of high-end watches, there are only several seals of approval that can set the bar even higher. These are accolades awarded to only the most unparalleled horological masterpieces, timepieces made to the highest standards and to tell the most accurate time.

"When you reach the dizzying heights of high-end watches, there are only several seals of approval that can set the bar even higher..."

These seals of approval often take the form of a few letters or a couple of words, emblazoned for the world and the wearer to see on the dial of the watch. Those who don’t know the importance of these acronyms and phrases won’t look at them twice, but they are some of the hardest badges of honour for watchmakers to earn.

Qualite Fleurier is one of those tags of quality. Assigned by the Fleurier Quality Foundation, they judge watches on their high-end finishing and exceptional movement performance.

So when you see those two small words at the bottom of this Toric dial, you immediately know just how impressive this watch is. But, before we delve inside the case, let’s take a look at that immaculately hand-guillochéd dial. Decorated in a “grain of rice” pattern, this watch face plays with light in a way distinct to any other dial we’ve seen this year.

This dial itself sits in a 40.8mm round case, that comes rendered in either 18ct red gold or white gold. It comes with some fantastically-shaped lugs and a knurled bezel that matches the detailed dial perfectly.

Turn this watch over, and you will see straight through the scratch-resistant sapphire case back to the mesmerising movement that, as you know from above, has been certified by Qualite Fleurier. It has also been certified by COSC — the organisation who can certify a watch as a chronometer.

The Toric clearly packs a lot in, from stunning looks to the highest levels of accuracy of movement. But, while you may be admiring the innovative dial, deep red gold of the case or meticulous movement, all we’re looking for are those all-important letters writ small on the dial.
