How Turnbull & Asser are bringing vintage style to your summer wardrobe

From retro prints to Cuban collars, move things forward by looking back

The past is most certainly the future in modern tailoring. From pleats to double-breasted jackets, fads and features from the past keep cropping up in contemporary patterns and taking current consumers by storm.

The Rockland shirt, by Turnbull & Asser, is no exception. Last year, when they launched the garment, all eyes may have been on the rounded pyjama-style collar and retro design, but the real interest in the shirt was to be found in the story behind it. In the 1940s, a World War II fighter pilot had a shirt made for him from Turnbull & Asser and, upon his death, several of his garments – this shirt included – were returned to the store.

And so it was that the traditional beach shirt, with its mother of pearl buttons and subtle patterning, stole the hearts of the cutters, and was promptly reissued. This year, the shirt has returned again, in all its short-sleeved glory, but this time in a selection of four fun geometric prints. Choose your favourite below, if you can…
