Functionality and elegance don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Yes, outwear should be comfortable, protective and practical, but that needn’t preclude it from looking great, no matter the season or occasion. So went the thinking behind the latest collaboration between Slowear and North Sails, a capsule collection for the autumn/winter 2024 season entitled ‘Urban Breeze’.
The second partnership between the two heritage brands – Slowear hailing from Venice and North Sails from the shores of Connecticut – Urban Breeze combines technical performance wear with refined and tailored touches for a new and innovative approach to outerwear. It represents a shared commitment between both brands to craftsmanship, durability and timeless design.
The collection is designed for “today’s urban sailors, who seek comfort, protection and distinctiveness in their daily lives”. This manifests in the form of four outerwear items, all characterised by an elegant, minimalist aesthetic. First up are a reversible vest and jacket, versatile staples for the tricky in-between seasons. The weatherproof outer shell in navy is crafted from earth-friendly Olmetex recycled nylon, while the opposite side is made from soft melange Merino wool. A protective high neck and handy zipper and snap button pockets offer further functionality to both pieces.
The capsule collection also features two garments crafted specifically for the colder months. A parka in a sleek, tailored silhouette is made from triple-layer bonded fabric and padded with ultra-soft recycled fibres, while its storm hood and waterproof zipper pockets offer maximum protection and an internal pocket is the perfect size for a phone or any small valuables. It’s an ideal piece for throwing over business attire, but will equally complement relaxed weekend garb.
Rounding out the collection is a technical fabric bomber jacket enhanced by luxurious Italian-made Storm System wool, which combines a fine, warm wool with a polyurethane coating to ensure utmost comfort, warmth and protection from the elements. In typical Slowear and North Sails fashion, no detail has been overlooked. Buttons on the bottom allow for the fit to be adjusted, and a convenient removable hood and collar offer ultimate versatility.
The Urban Breeze collection is tied together by a distinctive classic-meets-contemporary aesthetic that’s destined to stand the test of time, in line with the made-to-last philosophies of Slowear and North Sails. These are pieces that can be dressed up or down and worn time and time again for years on end.
