For their debut partnership, Slowear, the Italian clothing label known for its durable, timeless pieces, and Globe-Trotter, the British luggage brand famed for its hand-produced, throwback-style suitcases and travel accessories, have created a cabin trolley that fuses together the very best traits of each brand: ‘a long heritage, traditional manufacturing expertise, manic attention to details and performing aspects, a strong sense of aesthetics, and fine materials selection.’
Underpinned by the notion of ‘bringing tradition into the future’, the collaboration takes an original Globe-Trotter case, which features the hallmark leather corners and carbon-steel locks, and imbues it with a contemporary feel by stripping back several elements – notably, the shell doesn’t feature straps or laces – in order to keep the design as easy-to-use (but still traditional-looking) as possible for urban travellers, a performance-led, less-is-more approach that is often taken when Slowear makes its hero products.
In terms of specs, the exterior, which measures 42 x 56 x 21cm, has been crafted with 14 layers of zinc and recycled paper, which forms a shell that is more durable than leather, but weighs less than aluminium. The internal lining, meanwhile, has been done out in an Alcantara® coating – a first for Globe-Trotter – that is soft and lustrous to the touch.
When it comes to aesthetics, the brands have opted for a classic combination of black with dark green, two colours often favoured by Slowear and ones that can pair well with a variety of ensembles, whether that be a navy two-piece or a casual monochrome outfit of slim chinos and a button-down. To add further hits of detail, each trolley – which, in order to underline the exclusive nature of the collaboration, is only available on a made-to-order basis – is embellished with the user’s initials, in either black or grey.
“Globe-Trotter is what we consider a Slowear friend: we share a common heritage, a common vision, a strong focus on materials and quality,” says Piero Braga, CEO of Slowear. “This collaboration wants to slightly push on performance, and rather than a leisure-inspired item, we wanted to work on a performance product for all urban travellers. We are very pleased with the result, which we trust will also please our customers for whom the project was designed.”
