A postcard from Cannes. Gentleman’s Journal hit the Chopard party in style

On the glittering French Riviera, we joined film stars and socialites for the party of the season

The Cannes Film Festival isn’t short of traditions. From the annual awarding of the Palme d’Or to the inevitable and excruciating mispronunciations of the host city’s name, the charm of the event comes from its comfortable customs and conventions.

One such tradition is the glitz and glamour of exclusive parties. With lead sponsor Chopard, these soirees are predictably impressive, pulling in talent from in front and behind the camera to celebrate cinema on the Riviera.

Richard Ampaw and Josh Parkinson

This year, Gentleman’s Journal teamed up with Chopard to bring even more style to the south of France. On our Road to Cannes roadtrip, a team of socially and sartorially adept modern gentlemen took to the open road in Rolls Royce cars, with Chopard timepieces strapped to their wrists to make sure they made it to the film festival in time for the Chopard Gentleman’s party at the famed Martinez hotel.

Among these men were Richard Anpaw, Colin Dack, Alex Libby and Josh Parkinson.

Imogen Poots and James Norton

Atop the hotel, in the Cannes dusk, the party played host to such guests as former Gentleman’s Journal cover star Christoph Waltz, his fellow Bond villain Mads Mikkelsen, and the man hotly-tipped to be the next 007, James Norton.

Also present were actresses Julianne Moore, Marion Cotillard and Imogen Poots, with Luke Evans and Oliver Cheshire too joining the party. Caroline Scheufele, President of Chopard, was in attendance, joined by her brother and co-President of the family business, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele.

This glorious cast were on hand for the party — Chopard’s fourth annual bash — and were treated to a scintillating jazz set by famous New York trumpeter Chris Norton and his quartet. A plush cocktail reception recreated the atmosphere of a London private members club, with a suitably cinematic view of the legendary Croisette to boot.

This prestigious event boasted various whiskies, Roederer champagne and FAIR cocktails inspired by Chopard’s L.U.C collection. And with American DJ Alexandra Richards at the turntables, attendees were guaranteed to dance away the night — with their Chopard watches ticking well into the early hours…

Earlier this year, Gentleman’s Journal met six of Britain’s most promising young actors with Chopard. Read the interviews here…
