Why you should say yes to charcoal grooming products

2017 is the year to pour on the coal

Coal gets a bad rap. But, this boogeyman of the environmental fossil fuel crisis and the butt of many a negative expression – from carrying coals to being hauled over hot coals – has a lighter side. So to speak.

Charcoal has found its way into bathroom cabinets and grooming bags of late, with cleansers, face masks, body scrubs and even toothpastes cropping up. But is this residue really the key to better cleaning – or is it just the latest fad?

Charcoal, which has been used for years in the water filtration and purification process, is incredibly porous. This means that it essentially works like a sponge, absorbing grease, dirt and other impurities on a microscopic level.

In fact, charcoal is so much better at drawing grime away from the skin that it can remove up to 100 times its own weight. So, rather than sticking with your pretty-coloured or fruitily-scented facewash this year, why not go to the dark side in 2017 and pour on the coal?
