Introducing: The Tissot Heritage 1948 Chronograph

A vintage-inspired Tissot chronograph that won’t break the bank

Tissot has long been known for making high-quality, Swiss made watches at relatively affordable prices. A great entry point into the world of high-end watchmaking, the brand offers a diverse range of models to choose from and can provide the perfect complement to any outfit.

Joining the ranks this year is the Tissot Heritage 1948 Chronograph, which was officially unveiled at Baselworld 2017. Inspired by a model from Tissot’s archive, its retro style and attractive price point has turned it into a sleeper hit amongst watch enthusiasts.

Presented in a 39.5mm stainless steel case, the Tissot Heritage 1948 Chronograph is paired with a 1970’s style Milanese mesh bracelet or a leather strap, both of which are attractive for different reasons. Of particular note are the twisted lugs, which add just that extra bit of visual flair to the case design. At 11.9mm thick it’s reasonably thin by chronograph standards, although this is not an ultra-slim watch by any stretch.

What will really turn heads at your local however, is the opaline silver dial. Understated in every way, the monochromatic design is reminiscent of a sports chronograph from several decades ago. There is no contrasting use of colour, no fluffy ancillary details, just exactly what you need, exactly where you need it. The vintage Tissot logo is a particularly nice touch.

The time is indicated centrally, with applied dots for the hours, a minute track running around the edge of the dial and three sub-registers for the chronograph. At 9 o’clock is the 30-minute counter, whilst at 6 o’clock there is the elapsed hour counter, all the way up to 12 hours. The chronograph seconds are indicated centrally, whilst small seconds are shown on the final sub-register at 3 o’clock. At 4:30 there is a small date window and completing the overall design is a large ‘XII’ at 12 o’clock.

Providing the power in the Tissot Heritage 1948 Chronograph is the ETA 2894-2 chronograph movement, which is partially visible through two curved windows on the caseback. An automatic movement, it’s a solid and reliable workhorse that offers a 42-hour power reserve. A great all-round watch, the Tissot Heritage 1948 Chronograph is suited to just about any occasion and will appeal to novices and experienced enthusiasts alike.
