Introducing: the Grand Seiko 8 day power reserve

The iconic Grand Seiko, elevated.

As far as watches go, the Grand Seiko is pretty iconic. And earlier this year, the brand launched the 8 day power reserve edition, a timepiece will all of the pure essentials of traditional watching making, elevated to the next level of art. The attention to detail in this watch is exquisite: functionally, the Caliber 9R01 means that it has a power reserve of eight days, made possible by the three barrels it uses. Each one is linked together, so unwinds together, but three times more slowly than a single barrel – therefore extending the power reserve.

From the diamond dust-covered dial, representative of the Nagano region that inspired the watch; to the five-sided hands; to the platinum, 43mm diameter – this is, stylistically, a true beauty in every sense of the word. The detailing is strong and powerful, and representative of something close to the brand’s heart centre, whether that’s the highly polished rubies and the rich, blue screws, which are representative of the city lights in the studio’s home in Suwa, or the bridge, which outlines Mt. Fuji. This model is especially unique because of the collaboration that helped it come about. It is the first ever Grand Seiko to have been created by the world-renowned Micro Artist Studio in Nagano.

If you’re looking to invest in something a little different, gentlemen, the impeccable Grand Seiko 8 day power reserve is for you.
