Hackett’s latest ‘Mayfair’ collection puts a modern spin on traditional style
From double-breasted waistcoats to bright suede bombers, the British-born brand is updating classic looks
Each year, Hackett surprises us. A pleasant surprise, we hasten to add, but a surprise nonetheless. With their unique approach to mens’ fashion, fresh spins on classic styles and innovative uses of materials, we’re always excited to see what the British brand roll out for their AW18 collection.
This year, like every one before it, didn’t disappoint. As autumn approaches, expect clean structures, fine merinos, soft suedes and deluxe leather in the most premium of the Hackett collections, Hackett Mayfair.
It’s a collection that shines a spotlight on versatility, offering an all-purpose wardrobe of staple items. And we’re particular fans of the elegantly-tailored separates, designed to mix and match. But it’s not all blazers and luxury outerwear. The range also includes everything from essential suiting to immaculate black tie, and even a line of accessories.
And heritage is woven into the collection. The British cloth used to create the garments is sourced from renowned mills including Fox Brothers and Stephan Walters.
But, although there is a clear deference to tradition, this season Hackett have also been remarkably playful with colour, texture and pattern. A colour palette of grey, camel, copper, toffee and navy brings consistency to the range and supports the versatile styling qualities of individual products — this is a one stop shop for your autumn style.
If we had to choose our key pieces, we’d have to go for the shacket, designed with a suede front and 100% cashmere arms, and the reliable copper blouson made from 100% goat suede with a cotton lining for comfort. The Prince of Wales check blazer, luxurious to the touch and made from baby camel hair isn’t bad either…
Of course, nothing looks sleeker than eveningwear, and Hackett excel here, too. Beautifully interpreted for SW18, the offering includes a classic navy mohair dinner jacket with a choice of peak lapel or shawl collar, timeless black or cream dinner jackets or, for the more playful customer, a dogtooth, silk check dinner jacket in a rich chocolate brown; a memorable evening suit for any occasion — and a memorable collection overall.
