On Wednesday evening, to cap off and to celebrate the opening day of Gentleman’s Journal Live – our long-awaited series of panel discussions with industry leaders (from Aimee Yang to Jeremy King) and our marquee partnership event with carmaker Polestar – associates and friends of both companies gathered for an evening of drinks at Smallbone’s ‘luxury pavilion’, in Knightsbridge, London, the setting of which also hosted the day’s talks, which included discussions on what entrepreneurship looks like today, the challenges of modern hospitality, and what really goes on inside the modern art market.
Within the sprawling showroom – an elegant fit-out defined by its vast, open expanses, sharp lines and contemporary artwork – a spirited cadre of guests, including Cyrill Ibrahim, Mathias le Fèvre, Eric Underwood and William Franklyn-Miller, came together and sipped libations (which came courtesy of Penfolds and Double Dutch) around the modernist silhouette of a Polestar 3 that was on show.
For the second – and final – part of Gentleman’s Journal Live, there will be two further on-stage talks, the first of which – ‘Form is Function’ – will focus on why good design matters now more than ever, before the series concludes with ‘Sustainable by Default’, a debate that will include Polestar’s head of sustainability, Fredrika Klaren, and co-founder of Dash Water, Jack Scott, who will converse about how companies can make a positive impact naturally, the dangers of greenwashing, and what successful sustainability really looks like.
