Gentleman’s Journal celebrate their fifth year anniversary with IWC ambassadors

The pages of our latest issue are filled with collaborations with talented IWC wearers

Luxury watch manufacturers IWC aren’t ones to shy away from talent. From their in-house horologists and craftsmen, creating watches since the brand began in 1868, to the myriad ambassadors who wear their watches, there are few watchmakers who rub shoulders with such a varied and impressive pool of talent.

In the latest issue of Gentleman’s Journal – our 5th Anniversary edition, if you hadn’t heard – IWC have a strong presence. Throughout our years, the watchmaker has collaborated with us many times, partnering with us for means from uncovering new generations of acting talent to showing us the watches of SIHH. For this issue, through both cooperation and coincidence, IWC feature heavily – and here are just a handful of the times the talented craftsmen and their meticulous creations crop up.

Christoph Waltz wears an Portugieser Chronograph

For our fifth-anniversary issue, we knew we needed a big name – someone celebrated around the world for their talent and sophistication. And, seeing as though we’d waited so long to put an Oscar winner on the cover, we decided to skip those with a single statuette and go straight for a double Academy Award winner: Christoph Waltz.

Waltz, who moved to Hollywood permanently two years ago, has redefined villainy in cinema. From his role in Inglorious Basterds to embodying Ernst Stavro Blofeld in Spectre, Waltz may be a devil in the City of Angels, but his roles are as varied and diverse as any other actor working today. In our exclusive cover interview, we touch on self-reflection, the state of modern Hollywood and – of course – Donald Trump.

Nico Rosberg wears a Big Pilot’s Watch Spitfire

There’s nothing so accomplished as a world champion. And Nico Rosberg, the 32-year old wunderkind with 23 Formula One race wins under his belt, is one of the best. We caught up with the German-Finnish racing driver in Monaco – a spiritual home of racing – to discuss his new start as an exciting entrepreneur after his “brave, rash, admirable and bizarre” retirement from the sport.

“You have to take risks, because without risks you are never going to achieve anything,” said Nico in our interview, outlining his plans to go networking in China to really take his new business ideas global. Want to hear what’s further down the road for the king of the track? Pick up the latest issue now.

Sir Patrick Stewart wears a Portofino Automatic

Sir Patrick Stewart is not only a stalwart of British acting, but a huge advocate of nurturing up-and-coming acting talent. As such, the icon has become BFI’s mouthpiece for the IWC Filmmaker Bursary Award, imbuing his years of experience into youth schemes and budding actors and actresses.

“The BFI Bursary is great,” the actor says, “It gives you security, and it means you can afford to take risks and be bold and not be so conventional.” Elsewhere in our interview, the actor speaks about his first ever role, life in L.A and whether or not retirement is on the cards – spoiler: it isn’t.
