With the dizzying number of serums, shampoos and scrubs all promising to sculpt a more handsome man out of you, we know the thought of giving your bathroom cabinet an update can only serve to worsen your crow’s feet with stress.
Good thing, then, that the team over here at Gentleman’s Journal is here to clean up your act and narrow down your collection. We’ve done the not-so-hard work of trialling an inordinate number of products — with mixed results – and can now bring you the shortlist of products that meet our team’s exacting standards.

Scrub up your skin care...
First up, the team have selected the products that they rely on in order to face the day. Up first, the 111Skin Nocturnal Eclipse Recovery Cream. This miracle product works its magic through the night, combating signs of ageing and fatigue — and, our team tester assures us, is brilliant for anyone who’s prone to oily skin.
For our Art Director Joe, his morning grooming routine wouldn’t be complete without the Natura Bissé Diamond Extreme cream. Designed to resculpt and smooth the contours of the face. For Joe, it’s a winning product because “it smells lovely and keeps my skin soft without clogging my pores.”
According to our COO Chris, if you’re looking to turn back the clock, then you need look no further than Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Antioxidant Serum. This ultra-hydrating serum contains a nourishing blend of plant oils and antioxidants to restore radiance to dull, dry skin, while also protecting it from environmental damage.
Brush up your hair care...
A good hair day can see you through a lot. In order to best equip your locks for whatever might come your way, features writer Jonny recommends the Fudge Urban Matte Head Master. “It keeps my hair in place all day long, even after a morning cycle into work.”
Staff writer Russell, however, recommends the SachaJuan sea salt spray, since “it adds great texture to my hair, as well as that little bit of extra volume you need sometimes.”
And, for another firm-hold product that will keep everything in place, our consultant creative director, Duncan recommends the Oway Frozen Glaze. This aesthetically pleasing gel will provide extra strong hold with decisive control and glacial shine. Duncan tells us, “I discovered it through my hairdresser — the brand has good eco credentials, but I mainly use it because it gives good hold without being too greasy.”
Freshen up your fragrance collection...
There’s nothing like the spritz of new fragrance to put a spring in your step. If you’re looking to grow your collection, our esteemed editor Joe would recommend Giorgio Armani Acqua di Giò. “I’ve worn it ever since I was 15, and it has this lovely evening-y citrus note that still reminds me of a few over-excitable teenage summers.”
For a timeless choice, Russell recommends the Floris No. 89, describing it as “a light citrusy fragrance that never disappoints — my go-to as we enter the warmer months.” Alternatively, you could opt for Jonny’s personal favourite, Czech & Speake’s Neroli. “Elegant, rich and refined, this is a light breezy scent that suits the winter months, as well as summer.”
