TGJ EXCLUSIVE: Ede and Ravenscroft AW14 Campaign

Ede & Ravenscroft are London’s oldest tailor, having been around since 1689. A mighty impressive feat, their longevity is testament to their quality and ability to change with the times whilst continuing to hark back to their heritage. The Savile Row brand’s AW14 collection embodies this notion to a tee, offering up classically British tailoring, timeless outerwear and quirky accessories.

The first Savile Row tailor to reveal their AW14 campaign, Ede & Ravenscroft are looking to trump the competition with what will likely be one of the strongest outerwear offerings this season. The Prince of Wales check is distinctly British and here it’s utilised on a striking mid-length pea coat with oversized flap pockets and shoulder epaulettes, which will add an air of authority when worn with a fine tailored suit.

Speaking of authority, the stately black cashmere coat complete with astrakan collar is pure theatre, and wouldn’t look out of place on the back of Al Capone. For something more down-to-Earth, the double breasted raincoat with detachable leather collar is available in both stone and black – perfect for a variety of situations.

Suit-wise, Ede and Ravenscroft have stuck to traditional silhouettes, favouring a slightly wider leg in keeping with the move away from ultra-slim fitting cuts, the likes of which have dominated the industry for the past few years. The colour palette is muted, but pattern and seasonal materials add visual interest, most notable in the use of striking pinstripes as well as tweed.

Ede & Ravenscroft haven’t re-invented the wheel with their AW14 offering, but this is no bad thing, their focus on detail and emphasis on classic menswear, may mean that they’ll rise above the Savile Row collection release rat race. In the meantime, be sure to watch their stunning AW14 campaign video, which allows you to see their new range in motion.
