Cufflinks made from meteorites and dinosaur bones? Meet Robert Tateossian

The jewellery designer is ripping up the accessory rulebook

In 1990, Robert Tateossian made the bold move from City financier to jewellery designer. Founding his eponymous brand, it was a business decision that got people talking and made waves in the world of men’s accessories. But the ‘King of Cufflinks’ had hardly got started. If people thought the move was a shock, they’d seen nothing yet.

Today, Tateossian spends the majority of his time travelling the world, adventuring in search of the most exotic and incredible stones and minerals to use in the creation of some of the most striking cufflinks in the world.

These unconventional materials include meteorites, dinosaur bones and copper nuggets – which are, in turn, meticulously paired with the classic diamonds, gold and gemstones of men’s accessories to create fresh, contemporary and truly exceptional designs.

Tateossian cites the world as a whole as his main inspiration, and takes the experiences from his travels and turns them into the beautifully crafted pieces sold by the brand. And, from Siberia to Saudi Arabia, it is a brand based in over 70 countries around the world.

The most recent range of products epitomises this adventuring spirit, and the pursuit of quality, with pieces that reflect and underscore every man’s individual sensibility and approach to style. Here’s our pick of the best:

Tateossian’s Vintage Movement cufflinks take a step forward by incorporating an eye-catching and bold layer of translucent enamel. This vivid material covers the Tateossian signature pattern around the edges of the case, contrasting with the industrial metallic colour of the cufflinks. A limited edition series designed for the man who always looks for that “something extra”.

Cribrarula cribraria or Sieve cowrey is a species of sea snail. These snails found in the Red Sea or the Indian Ocean, feature natural brown/ orange shades with large blots of white on the shells. This unique shell has been set within a round case with a cut out back, which allows a detailed glimpse of the shell from the back. Complimented by a line of enamel, this exquisite and eye-catching cufflink makes a great addition to your collection.

This season, Tateossian has also introduced a range of bracelets, including the Macramé Diamond Baton design, which comes in an array of coloured diamond batons for that added sparkle. Also making its debut is the Macramé Bamboo bracelet that combines the beauty of the Macramé technique – a form of textile-making using knots – with the elegance of the Bamboo bracelet.

And, with the ‘stacking’ trend in men’s bracelets only gaining pace,The Cobra Multi Strand is also expected to be one of the firm favourites of the current bracelet range. The strands of Italian leather, secured with the Tateossian D shaped Cobra clasp, give the impression of wearing several bracelets, making it easy to wear alone and to stack with other bracelets.
