Cocktail of the Week: A Walk in the Woods

This brilliant blend of British spirits and ingredients is intended to represent the Great British countryside

Purdey gunmakers are synonymous with shooting quality. Holders of a Royal Warrant and homed in a specially built property in Mayfair, the company is unparalleled in both reputation and heritage.

To celebrate this renowned and illustrious history, 34 Mayfair, a restaurant on the same street as Purdey’s flagship store, has launched a range of cocktails to honour the brand.

Alongside the spiced whisky Bicentenary and absinthe and peppermint-tinged Long Room Punch is A Walk in the Woods, a brilliant blend of British spirits and ingredients that is intended to represent the Great British countryside – the natural habitat of a Purdey shotgun.

To recreate this flavour of the forest at home, combine Beefeater 24 gin, some pine liqueur – we’d suggest Zirbenz, and fruits of the forest cordial. Shake over ice.

Next, add a pinch of seasonal herbs, a grind of black pepper and lemon juice to taste. Fill a julep cup with ice, pour your cocktail over the top and garnish with seasonal flowers and berries.
