Cocktail of the Week: Casamigos Dirty Martinez

Add a little spice to your sophistication with a tequila martini

There’s nothing so sophisticated as a martini. Hailed as ‘the only American invention as perfect as the sonnet’, the sharp, sleek drink is as refined a concoction as you could imagine. But, whilst a clean cocktail is the chosen of tipple for many – Bond included – we prefer something a little more spicy. And that’s why we’re condoning making your martini a little spikier, by introducing tequila into the mix.

The trademark flavour combination of fruit, pepper and spice that typifies tequila brings something a little more exciting to the usually stiff-upper-lipped martini. You can savour the nuances of the blue agave plant that forms the spirit’s base, and add character and interest untold to the classic cocktail. And a really good tequila can make a really good martini – which is where Casamigos comes in.

Casamigos, sold earlier this year by actor George Clooney for $1 billion, is some of the smoothest, finest tequila on the planet. To create their spirited spirit, the process is slow, with the agave roasted for 10 times the average and fermented for twice as long. And the silver, the bottle used in the Dirty Martinez, is rested for two months after distillation add even more character.

To create the Dirty Martinez, combine 2.5 oz of Casamigos Blanco and 1 oz of olive juice into a tin shaker. Add ice, and shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds, before fine-straining into a small martini glass. Garnish with 3 green Italian olives on a skewer.
