Cocktail of the Week: The Sipsmith Siptini
A Martini in spirit, but a drink all its own - this signature serve strips things back to three ingredients and lets the gin do the talking.
- Words by: Gentleman's Journal
While heatwave climes may have paused, and cocktail umbrellas momentarily lowered, we shouldn’t be reaching for deep reds or cosy Old Fashioned’s just yet.
Quite the opposite in fact - while more agreeable temperatures might have us zigging away from Club Tropicana-inspired concoctions, they do have us zagging back towards our classic, year-round libations.
One such tipple is the Siptini. A charming signature serve from our Chiswick-based friends at Sipsmith, this short pour is the brand’s take on the time-honoured Martini and one that is excellently suited for a pre-evening sharpener or post-lunch pick-me-up (one need only consult with guests at our recent Long Summer Lunch for proof).
With Sipsmith’s London Dry Gin at its heart, this graceful imagining of a Duke’s Hotel classic places the spirit front and centre, revealing the gin’s clarity and texture and allowing the aromatics to invigorate the palate, guaranteeing smooth, uncompromising flavour with every careful sip.
More invigorating still is the startling simplicity with which this elixir is created. No blowtorch, dragon fruit or bitters required - those manning the home bar need only reach for three ingredients to take happy hour to the next level: Sipsmith London Dry Gin, Dry Vermouth and a Lemon Twist.
While Highball Hamish (the enigmatic pilot of the Sipsmith Martini Tricycle) is our preferred Siptini-slinger, we’re assured that his method is as swift and as elegant as the beat of a swan’s wing and encourage any and all Martini or gin enthusiasts to try it out for themselves.
(swan-neck glassware recommend, but not essential)
