The best places to eat during fashion month (and beyond)

Where the fashion pack and timepiece titans will be dining this year

Whether you’re jet-setting from a fashion show in Milan to one in New York, or travelling across Switzerland in order to inspect the finest chronometers at this year’s watch fairs, you need to make sure you’re dining well in order to get through a jam-packed schedule. Need some help? Then let us lend a hand. From Spring in London to Le Grille in Geneva, these are the most stylish places to pick up a morsel of culinary delights while on the road in the upcoming months.

Visit Spring during… London Fashion Week: Men’s

With London’s sartorial parade taking place at 180 Strand, there’s no restaurant that’s more ideally-located than Spring. Set in Somerset House (a five minute walk away from all the fashion goings on), this dream-like and picturesque eatery by Skye Gyngell will be sure to soothe your soul following a long day of perusing the finest garments the capital has to offer. Inside you’ll find crisp white table cloths draped over tables, beautiful marble pillars that line the room and piquant seasonal dishes that slowly flow from the kitchen. For something that will truly dance on your tastebuds, opt for the fillet of beef with Jerusalem artichokes, Café de Paris and collard greens.

Visit Giacomo Bistrot during… Milan Men’s Fashion Week

Milan isn’t just at the beating heart of menswear, but it’s also renowned as a historic centre of gastronomy. And, unlike Copenhagen or other destinations that take a technical roots-and-shoots approach to cooking, it’s a city that prefers to serve up food that’s historic and hearty. Although there’s a hinterland of spots to visit in this Italian jewel, there aren’t many places that can trump Giacomo Bistrot, an opulent and classically-styled restaurant that’s furnished with upholstered red chairs in which you can sit back, sip on an Aperol spritz and tuck into gourmet goods such as a the Giacomo bombe (puff-pastry filled with mascarpone cream).

Visit VyTA Santa Margherita during… Pitti Uomo

Once you’ve completed your Trenitalia journey from Milan to Florence, make sure to grab a bite at the stylish VyTA Santa Margherita which is based near platforms 12 and 13 in Santa Maria Novella Station. Created by Daniele Colli and opened just over a year ago, this former 1930s first-class waiting room is a design buffs dream, with Duomo-esque green and white-striped marble flooring, rose copper, polished glass and pendant bulbs by AfroditiKrassa all combining together to create a space that is both minimalistic and elegantly refined. The food of course is also impressive, with homemade delights such as buttery croissants and creamy cakes on offer to famished commuters. In a city of Renaissance sensations, this restaurant is a true masterpiece.

Visit La Rotonde de la Muette during… Paris Fashion Week Men’s

While the tastemakers will be stationed near the Eiffel Tower et al. in order to snap pics for their large social following, why not take a respite from the crowd and venture somewhere a bit more quiet? La Rotonde de la Muette in Paris’ 16th arrondissement should do the trick. Frequented by intellectuals and the art crowd ever since Pablo Picasso hung out there a century ago, this charming bistro will become your favourite hangout whenever you visit the French capital – and it’s obvious why. Whether it’s the warm, alluring glow of the overhead umber lights, or the hearty, moreish classics on offer (such as the tartare de bœuf or the soufflé au grand mariner), La Rotonde is somewhere that has perfected every aspect of restaurant life.

Visit Blue Hill during… New York Fashion Weeks Men’s

If you like your food the same way you like your clothes (ethically-resourced and eco-friendly), then farm-to-table dining is something to try out. Not only does this philosophy produce delicious food, but, more importantly, with a specific focus on seasonal and healthy ingredients, it’s helping steer America’s dietary culture into a new direction. The restaurant pioneering this movement? Blue Hill in Greenwich Village. Helmed by chef-restauranteur Dan Barber, this trailblazing restaurant forgets all fads and gimmicky cooking techniques, and instead turns farm produce into Michelin-rated dishes. Notable standouts include the carrot steak with cipollini onions, winter fruits with oysters and mushrooms and honey nut split with seeds and skins.

Visit Cheval Blanc during… Baselworld 2018

As a major city in what is often considered as the capital of luxury, Basel certainly knows how to do things well. And while you’re there during this year’s watch fair, why not take act like a Swiss and indulge in the finer things in life? We can’t think of many better ways to do so then booking in at Cheval Blanc. Found inside the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois and boasting an impressive three Michelin stars, every delicate dish at this opulent joint will be sure to impress and satiate your inner gourmand, while the traditional and calming setting is perfect for when you want to unwind from a long day of observing the country’s best chronometers.

Visit Le Grill during… SIHH Geneva 2018

Set on the 2nd floor of the Grand Hôtel Kempinski, Le Grill offers sweeping vistas of the lake and snow-capped Mont Blanc as well as a look into the kitchens and rotisserie. Cold rooms are also on site in order to store all the restaurant’s splendid cuts of meat (such as entrecôte and beef fillets) and the wine cellar is one of the best in western Europe. Moreover, few places can match Le Grille in terms of ambience, with fashion giant Christian Louboutin favouring the restaurant for its “hushed locale and soothing view of the harbour.”
