The best places to celebrate the 4th of July in London

God bless these British bars for hanging the stars and stripes

Running all summer, but launching tonight, London’s top rooftop restaurant, Madison, is bringing the deep south of New Orleans to the British capital. Tonight, to celebrate both Independence Day and British Airways new flight route to New Orleans, the atmosphere will be drenched in the Mardi Gras spirit of the Louisiana city, offering up a selection of deep south-inspired dishes and cocktails.

, Expect deep fried buttermilk chicken, mini Cajun duck Boudins, BBQ asparagus and beignets with cinnamon icing sugar. Cocktails including the Strawberry Louisiana and the Bourbon Street will be on offer and the music will be provided by a New Orleans Funk Trio.

‘For all things starred and striped,’ boast Rumpus Room. And, if you’re in the mood for unparalleled views of the London skyline with a live American band, all-American cocktails and good old fashioned beer pong, then this is the place to be tonight.

In the Sea Containers building, the newly-refurbished Rumpus Room has recently been reimagined as a bright and verdant riverside rooftop bar – so where better to celebrate the 4th of July than amidst lush greenery, plush sofas and comfortable lounge spaces.

For a party from the past, you should head to Cahoots. This underground bar is going full-out for the 4th of July, with Kentucky bourbon cocktails and a marching band. Open from 5pm this evening, head downstairs to this subterranean station bar for a rip-roaring celebration.

Cahoots has also teamed up with Jim Beam Double Oak, which means black market liquors and crazy cocktails from the Seeing Stars and Stripes to the Liberty Liquor – all served in Cahoots’ signature hip flasks, milk bottles and tins.

For one day only, The Diner are serving their ‘kick-ass’ Independence Day menu. Let’s start with the big guns. They’ve got a west coast-inspired Santa Cruz Chicken burger, including crispy fried chicken breast, avocado, Monterey Jack cheese, chipotle slaw for just a tenner.

Show stopping sides include Jalapeno poppers with bacon and sour cream as well as our famous WTF Fries, French fries with shredded BBQ pork, cheese, friend eggs, bacon, gravy, and chili flakes. A strictly USA soundtrack and 4th of July decor will complete the experience, so if you’re looking to raise a glass – or fork – to Independence, then the Diner is the place to be.

Tonight, the King & Co – a proper English pub for those of you looking for something a little less intense – will host a Tap Takeover – with eight US draught beers and free samples from ROGUE on offer. We’re talking everything from Brutal IPA to American Amber Ale – you’ll leave feeling merry, patriotic and thoroughly American.

And, if you miss the event tonight, tomorrow the fourth festivities continue into the fifth, with an exclusive American beer and whisky pairing evening – with cocktails to boot. God bless America.
