The best industries for becoming a millionaire

Looking to fast-track your fortune?

They say that ‘money makes the world go round’ – and they’d be right.

From the world of fashion to the world of finance, to quote another saying, ‘money talks’. But if you’re looking to get on the fast track to a fortune, which are the best industries in which to invest your time?

Most financial consulting companies, such as global corporation Capgemini, place renewable energy in their top ten fastest growing industries – meaning that if you get in now, you could be very rich very soon.

Fossil fuels won’t last forever, and as energy providers become more and more desperate for alternative sources of power, the more in demand you’ll find yourself. And, of course, when you’re that sought after, you can name your price…

From gadgets to apps, the technology industry is booming – and people who couldn’t have dreamt about having fortunes even a decade ago are now some of the most affluent in the world.

Swedish programmer Markus Persson developed Minecraft in 2009 and is now worth $1.75 billion. SnapChat founder Evan Spiegel turned down a $3 billion buyout from Facebook in November 2013.

And Jan Kourn, the Ukranian immigrant who spent his teenage years on welfare and food stamps before thinking up a little app called Whatsapp? He sold his company to Facebook two years ago for $22 billion.

Proof then, that one of the best ways to give your bank account a boost is to master all things tech.

Forget millionaires – almost 10 per cent of the world’s billionaires made their fortunes through the real estate industry.

Not only is property an industry you can start out in part-time, whilst maintaining a salary-paying job, it is also a simple process. You follow the proven pattern of buying, selling and renting and, the harder you work, the easier it will become to make millions.

An obvious inclusion, those who watch Wall Street, Billions or The Wolf of Wall Street with envy must dream of working the stock markets as a sure fire way to wealth.

267 of the billionaires on Forbes’ rich list made their fortunes in the finance and investment sector. However, the industry is infamously tough – long hours, hard work and incredible pressure.

It may have the potential to get you rich quick, but there’s a good chance you’ll end up sacrificing your life – however temporarily – for prosperity.

Perhaps a surprising inclusion, those who work in fashion actually place second on Forbes’ Rich List.

Be they designers or bloggers, social media has opened up many new avenues of advertising and opportunity for those who work in fashion. But the new kids on the block, whilst comfortably making seven figures year-on-year, are still no match for the established players – Giorgio Armani is worth $6.2 billion, and Ralph Lauren? $8.2 billion.

Proof then, that dressing well really can get you ahead in business.
