5 hairstyles that will never go out of fashion

Take note, gentlemen

There are two types of gentlemen in this world; one that experiments with his haircut year on year, constantly changing things up and trying his hardest to follow the latest trends. We also all know that one guy that’s worn the same high style for throughout the majority of his adolescent life, changing it up in the most subtle way when he goes for his monthly trim.

While one of these isn’t necessarily better than the other, but there are definitely reasons why some hairstyles stay timeless, and countless gentlemen all over the world rock them throughout the majority of their lifetime. So which ones are they:

Relativity Media

Not to be confused with the more brutish full-shave, the buzz cut is slightly more low-maintenance but certainly just as masculine. You need to make sure you’re visiting the right barber who can give you exactly the right balance between shave and hair. A slightly square shape will suit the majority of face shapes, but try not look too much like you’re heading into battle if you go for this.

Top tip: There’s absolutely no shame in losing your hair, it’s a fact of life and an issue that a huge amount of men are faced with at some point or another. If your follicles are starting to let you down, the entire thing has got to go. You can keep a small amount of hair but trust us, going for the buzz cut is a sure fire way or disguising everything…

If you’re genetically blessed with a thick or slightly curly head of hair, the likelihood is that you’ve been rocking this look for a while – and long may that continue. Worn by gentlemen of all ages and from all walks of life, the long, slicked back look is guaranteed to get you noticed and will never, ever go out of style.

Top top: When we say pushed back, that doesn’t mean you need to douse yourself in wet look gel and comb your hair all the way back, there needs to be a bit of bounce and give in your cut. Make sure there are layers there, that you’re still actually getting your hair cut and that it doesn’t actually get any longer than about half way down your neck.

Gentlemen who wear it best: David Gandy, James Dean, Leonardo DiCaprio

If you’re busy living life and don’t have time to visit the hairdresser once a month, this is the cut for you. It’s smart without being too stuffy, and easy to tousle up on the weekends. Keep the top longer and the back and sides a little shorter to ensure the whole thing stays slick and smart.

Top tip: Although this is a seriously low maintenance cut, you still need to put a bit of effort into styling it rather then just trusting it the Gods. A tiny bit of matt wax will do the job nicely and is exactly what you need to keep things looking perfectly in place.

Gentlemen who wear it best: Daniel Craig, Steve McQueen

This is definitely a bit of a tricky one to pull off, but one that plenty of gentlemen still do. If you’ve got time in the mornings and take pride in your thick head of hair, this is perfect for you.

Top tip: Keep a bit of bounce because as with before, you risk looking sleazy and try-hard if you slick your entire lid the whole way back. A loose, subtle quiff is the type of style you want to intertwine with this, as well as a prominent, less bouncy side parting.

Gentlemen who wear it best: Paul Newman, Frank Sinatra

We’re not talking about a Bieber-esque type of side parting, but a much neater one that can still be worked into everyday life, one that requires little to no styling and looks natural on every gentleman, regardless of his age.

Top tip: You need to make sure that you have a bit of length to ensure that you can push it back properly and not look like a prepubescent boy. Keep it longer on the predominant side and shorter on the side with less hair. Style it in a natural and subtle way and we guarantee that this ‘do will last you years.

Gentlemen who wear it best: George Clooney, Ryan Gosling
