Culture, architecture and a whole host of hidden attractions, Russia is the place to be...

Russia is a destination on the rise. Forget what you think you knew about Eastern Bloc architecture and the wilds of Siberia – the largest country in the world has more to offer than you could imagine, with colour and culture swirled together in attractions from the Red Square to the Monument to the Conquerors of Space. And, with the 2018 FIFA World Cup on its way to Russia, the country will be centred on the public stage more squarely than ever before. Need further convincing? Check out these ten photographs below.

This colourful memorably named five-domed dazzler offers stunning views both from the exterior and interior. Stay outside to see the classic Russian Orthodox church glittering as the sun changes position and admire the 7000 square meter mosaic haven from the inside.

Grandiose and elegant – this blue dome is a must see when you are in Kazan. Standing in the shadow of the Kazan Kremlin, it is one of the largest mosques in Europe. The building and surroundings have spectacular night time illumination so if possible, make it an after dark trip!

The coastal city Sochi is known as a summer beach resort, idyllically surrounded by both mountains and beaches. Sochi’s dramatic scenery, clear waters and picturesque harbour are all views to marvel. Its pedestrian-only sea embankment is packed with restaurants, cafes and bars, ideally placed for celeb-spotting or watching the sun drop behind the Black Sea horizon. No filter needed!

The Kremlin in Izmaylovo is the unique centre of culture and entertainment, based at the famous Izmaylovo Vernissage. With its fairy tale inspired design this quirky Kremlin is sure to get the likes flooding in.

One of the few National Park landmarks that can be reached by foot, the trek to Svirskoe Gorge offers dramatic sceneries of canyons, rivers and waterfalls, which will make your Instagram followers envious!

Take a stroll down the banks of the Moscow River and you’ll encounter rows of dozens of trees, each one housing hundreds if not thousands of padlocks. Much like the famous bridges in Paris and Venice couples have been securing padlocks to these trees for years to symbolize a couple’s eternal love.

Last but not least…the Red Square offers both a walk through history and never ceases to inspire with its beauty. Surrounded by architectural marvels and a vast rectangular stretch of cobblestones, it promises plenty photo opportunities regardless of which direction you are looking.

The grand exterior and lavish interior of The Grand Palace at Peterhof will provide ample opportunities to wow your followers with sparkling chandeliers and stunning sitting rooms. Known as the “Russian Versailles”, the Palace’s ballroom is the show-stopper, with gold dominating the huge room from floor to ceiling.

The Kazan Kremlin is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the only surviving Tatar fortress in Russia. Visit the Kazan Kremlin to snap buildings from the 10th – 16th century – not many people will have that on their Instagram!
