Royal Trunk may be headquartered in Brescia, but it was nearby Milan – the heart of Italian design and business – that inspired its ingenious Milano trunk. A beautiful alternative to the more conservative desk, there’s skilled craftsmanship at every turn; when covering the exterior in leather, for example, its makers use 2000 hand-hammered brass tacks to secure it. Yet this is only a tantalising glimpse of what is to come, as opening the trunk reveals an impeccable, Tardis-like workstation. A multitude of shelves and drawers keep everything within arms reach, while a concealed cable conduit and glass blackboard ensure it satisfies 21st-century needs. Dedicated to preserving a ‘sense of bespoke exclusivity’, Royal Trunk will even incorporate a humidor – a thoughtful touch for those who like to mingle business with pleasure. RoyalTrunk.com

Covered in its signature Venezia leather, it brings a more organic sort of luxury to a product usually associated with space-age materials. Developed by Olga Berluti in the Nineties, Venezia leather responds exceptionally well to the mineral and vegetable tanning techniques used to create its unique patina. Those wishing to augment this antique look can opt for the Maison’s ‘Scritto’ calligraphy etching – a technique that provides a decorative finish unlike any other.
