Wishlist: What we want this week

From marvellously modern properties to costly clocks, this is what we want this week

This home designed by Pierre Koenig acts as hard proof that big ideas can come in small packages. Measuring at just 1,280 square feet, the space was originally designed as part of the 1945-64 Case Study Programme, an innovative project that asked major architects of the time to build inexpensive living quarters to cater to the post-WW2 housing boom. After under going an ultra-sleek restoration by Koenig in the 1990s, the interior is now the epitome of modern living and boasts a host of amazing features such as floor-to-ceiling windows and surrounding water ponds. It’s now up for sale, of course only to those with impressive bank accounts – but who can put a price on being able to live in one of Los Angeles’ most famous properties?

The humble piggy bank has been given a super-luxe upgrade by Asprey in the release of their sterling silver combination safe. Crafted in the British brand’s London workshop, their iteration of the money bank was inspired by vintage models so in turn features traditional design details like a fully functioning dial mechanism. Coming with lacquered wooden feet so that it can sit smartly upon your surface of choice, this is the perfect place to save all your pennies and pounds for a rainy day.

The arrival of winter means we all jump at any opportunity to get away from the cold, grey drear of home; but whether you’re planning a quick weekend jaunt or a full blown exotic vacation, it’s key that you make your escape in impeccable style. Do so with the navy ‘Jour-Off’ holdall from Berluti – lovingly made from hand polished Venezia hide and finished with rich brown trims, this piece reflects the Italian brand’s incomparable expertise in producing refined leather goods. Its careful fabrication also means that the bag will only become more supple as it matures, making it the perfect travel companion to see you round the world and back again.

The table clock is something that often inspirers dread in its owner – the first thing you see as you open your eyes from the warm, comfortable depths of sleep, this household item is only there to remind you that you need to get up and start the day. However, designer Marc Newson is out to make the clock into an object d’art, and has teamed up with Jaeger-LeCoultre to creatively reinterpret one of their classic timepiece models. Out of the collaboration comes the Atomos 568, a clock made from a special extra-clear glass that allows it to appear magnificently transparent and draw in a curious gaze by showing its inner workings in stunning clarity.

We all know the Big Apple for its buzzing crowds and dashing yellow cabs, but Reinhart Wolf’s new coffee table tome New York takes our perception of one of the world’s greatest cities to a dizzying new height. The book documents Wolf’s findings after he turned his lens to capture some of the world’s tallest buildings over 30 years ago, showing everything from gothic design details to the shimmering sides of skyscrapers that lie high above the urban streets. An artful homage to Wolf’s eye for architectural photography, readers will be left in utter amazement of the New York skyline and its numerous feats of engineering – undoubtedly a page turner.
