The Journal picks three top wines on offer this week.

Baron de Tours Medoc, 2010, France, ABV 13%, This great value medium-bodied Claret from the Medoc vineyards is the perfect partner to red meats and game, and who knows even the BBQ if the sun stays. It is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon that gives a blackcurrenty edge, however there is also Merlot, which offers black fruit flavours and cedar notes. Taittinger Brut Réserve NV Champagne, France, ABV 12%, From one of the finest and oldest houses comes the delightfully light Taittinger Brut Réserve. With it’s pale colour, dryness and strong bubble, it is a constant crowd pleaser. On the nose it has notes of green fruit and a refreshing acidity. When match with delicate flavoured food, it is a pure delight to drink. On offer at Majestic at the bargain price of £26, down from £38, it is not to be missed. majestic.com

Wither Hills Chardonnay 2010/2011 Marlborough, New Zealand, ABV 14%, It is hard to find fault with this New Zealand Chardonnay, especially at the offer price of £7.99. The wine is from the relatively young (established in 1994) vineyard of Wither Hills, which is located in the Wairau Valley region of Marlborough. This area is renowned for it’s long sunshine hours and cool nights. On the nose it has strong notes of lime, grapefruit and white peach, all of which are underline by a nutty, toasted, long oak finish. Best matched with fish such as sea bass. £7.99 majestic.com
