Argo-660

What to watch in the Cinema – ArgoWith a star studded cast list featuring Alan Arkin, Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Christopher Denham, Clea DuVall, John Goodman, Kerry Bishe, Rory Cochrane, Scoot McNairy, Tate Donovan, and Victor Garber, it’s no wonder that Argo was such a huge hit. This daring film is based on the true life story of CIA agent, Tony Mendez. Film critics describe it as “enjoyable,” “nail-biting,” and having “hilarious parts.” The time is 1979, when six American officials were miraculously able to escape from the US embassy in Tehran, just before it was taken over by a pro-Ayatollah mob. This mob held those remaining in the building hostage. Those that managed to escape, hid out at the Canadian ambassador’s home. This is when the situation became the CIA’s problem, and the case was given to Tony Mendez. Such a brilliant plan, to have a sham production of a fake film in order to get the escaped refugees back to safety in America. It is true that there is no business like show business, and show business was what could save the lives of the escapees. Although it seemed like an impossible mission, Tony Mendez, played by Affleck, was determined not to give up. Book Now – odeon.co.uk

Where To Go – Exhibit: Becoming Picaso: Paris 1901 at the Courthauld GalleryWhen he first moved to Paris in 1901, Pablo Picasso was only 19 years old. He journeyed to the city for his first exhibition in Paris, all due to Ambroise Vollard’s art dealings. All of the paintings in the first room of the gallery of this show were featured in Vollard’s exhibition. At this point in time, Picasso was still searching for his signature style. After the devastating public suicide of Picasso’s good friend Carles Casagemas, there is an obvious transition in Picasso’s style and technique that is reflected in his artwork. Many other significant moments in his life contributed to the evolution of his skills and shaping of his artistic voice. This show is not just about viewing the works of Pablo Picasso, the purpose is to narrate his artistic journey to become the modern master that we classify him as today. 24th Feb to 26th May, Tickets are £6 – Book Here courtauld.ac.uk
