Trailer: Million Dollar Arm

Trailer: Million Dollar Arm

Jon Hamm is pitching to make the move from small screen stardom, as main man Don Draper in Mad Men, to the red carpet of the silver screen with his first venture into Hollywood. A heart-warming, it is a Disney movie after all, collision of Slumdog Millionaire and Jerry Maguire, the movie sees Hamm portray the true story of obsessive sports agent JB Bernstein who travelled to India in a last ditch effort to find pitchers that could take him to the big leagues back home in the World Series. It’s a clever idea, both Slumdog Millionaire and Jerry Maguire have gone down in history as an unusual meeting of critically acclaimed cinema and much-loved, oft-quoted popular culture sensations (not to mention hitting it big at the box-office). Hamm looks to have made the transition to the big screen seamlessly in the trailer and although The Guardian thinks the film is ‘disingenuous’ and neocolonialist, they look to have taken an overly harsh and staunchly principled line. He’s in good company too, with co-stars Bill Paxton and Lake Bell and the quintessential face of Indian-American cinema Aasif Mandvi.

Million Dollar Arm is in out now in UK cinemas
