Trailer: Knight of Cups

What more is there to say about Terrence Malick? The man is responsible for many of the greatest films of the last forty years and every film he makes is poetry in motion; he is more than a film director, more than auteur – he is quite simply a visionary.

Despite the release of its spellbinding trailer, not much is known about Knight of Cups aside from the fact that it is set in Hollywood and is a tale about celebrity, temptation, excess and redemption. Although there hasn’t been all that much buzz around it (due to the secrecy that all Malick films are shrouded in) it has a very impressive cast that includes Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Imogen Poots, Antonio Banderas, Frieda Pinto and Ben Kingsley.

After a hiatus of twenty years (from 1978’s Days of Heaven – to 1998’s The Thin Red Line), Malick’s output is becoming steadily more impressive and another, currently titleless, Malick film was filmed back-to-back with Knight of Cups. If you’re a fan of cerebral cinema and of films with a lot of A-listers, you’ll be in for a treat in 2015 and beyond.
