This weekend saw the conclusion of the 71st edition of the Tre Golfi, bringing three weeks of offshore and inshore racing to a close against the dramatic backdrop of Naples, Capri and the Sorrentine coastline. Long regarded as one of the Mediterranean’s most prestigious sailing events, the regatta once again combined technical competition with the elegance and atmosphere that have become synonymous with the Tre Golfi name.
Held between 5 and 28 May, this year’s event brought together an international fleet of Maxi yachts and offshore racers for the iconic 150-nautical-mile Regata dei Tre Golfi alongside four days of coastal and inshore racing in the Bay of Naples. The conditions proved as demanding as they were picturesque, with shifting breezes around Capri and tactical offshore passages testing even the most experienced crews.
Final offshore honours went to the Wally 100 Galateia, owned by David Leuschen and Chris Flowers, which once again demonstrated its dominance in long-distance racing by taking line honours in the Regata dei Tre Golfi.
As the championship entered its closing inshore phase, the competition intensified across the fleet. Italy’s My Song merged as one of the standout performers of the final series after an exceptional opening day in Sorrento, trading places with Galateia, Leopard 3 and Magic Carpet E in highly changeable conditions around Capri.
The regatta concluded with the presentation of the Loro Piana Challenge Trophy, awarded to the winner of the IMA Maxi European Championship, who will retain the trophy until next year’s edition. Yet beyond the results, the enduring appeal of Tre Golfi lies in its ability to merge elite-level sailing with the unmistakable glamour of the Italian coast, a combination that continues to cement its status as a highlight of the European racing calendar.
