Of course, your coat is the first line of frosty defence in the fight against the big chill. But that doesn't mean you can settle for just any old throw-on. You want a coat that's actually worth investing in during these winter months, because it's about to become your best friend, after all.
Here in the UK the temperature drops to on average between 2 and 7 degrees Celsius, which means pretty frosty. And while you probably have an arctic heater in the form of a North Face Nuptse stowed away for good measure, we're here to show you which everyday coats are up to the job of keeping you warm, as well as looking good.

The coat of choice for Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim, Paul Smith's puffer coat is a wise option. Elegant and contemporary, Italian label Pal Zileri's fully lined coat is constructed from cashmere and wool. It features a notch lapel and three-button fastening and is about as timeless as a coat can really get.
Made in the UK, Sirplus's midnight navy overcoat is cut from smooth, Italian 100 per cent cashmere. Tailored to a slightly boxy, single-breasted silhouette that allows for ease of movement without sacrificing a sharp aesthetic, it's the ideal coat for layering over a thick winter scarf.
Characterised by its duffle style, this coat from Italian brand Slowear is the versatile layer your wardrobe needs. It's smart enough for the office, but lax enough to be worn at the weekend with jeans. Made using a wool felt, it's quick drying and an antidote to temperamental weather.
