Property of the week – Cattespool Estate

Words: Violet

At this time of the year, our thoughts turn to the finer things in life. Being out of doors, shooting and fishing, then walking across the fields to our Tudor manor house for a delicious supper of roast chicken around the inglenook fireplace. In the morning, perhaps a leisurely ride to inspect the woodland and tennis court before a long lunch in the gardens. It’s every man’s dream to have a beautiful sporting estate in the country, and Cattespool is one of the loveliest we’ve come across.

Set in 562.4 of its own rolling acres in the luscious farming countryside between Birmingham and Worcester, Cattespool is a mini-haven. No, it’s not in the Cotswolds, and hurrah for that. You’ll be more likely to see a tractor here than an organic day spa, and cows are thicker on the ground than chi chi boutiques.

The main house is of great historic interest, while there is also wonderful secondary accommodation in the form of a converted barn and coach house. There are gardens galore, as well as stables, a tennis court and plenty of arable land. But it’s the sporting aspects that really appeal to us: there’s a substantial fishing lake and plenty of woodland, proving excellent cover for game.

This house is a bucolic idyll, the perfect place to raise a family or decamp to from the city with big groups of friends for shooting weekends. It would suit someone interested in farming, or else someone willing to employ a farm manager – the range of traditional farm building are practically Sylvanian in their charm.

The Cattespool Estate is on sale with Savills for £8,400,000. For more information visit savills.com
