Given the shifts he’s put in over his many years of parenthood, there are few better gifts to give your old man – or the father figure in your life – than a fine suite of grooming goods that’ll soften, smooth and lighten the load off his complexion.

Known as Cary Grant and Ian Fleming’s spritz of choice, this Eau de Toilette has been Floris’s signature scent for more than 70 years and it sits among the greatest concoctions the industry has seen, thanks to a citrus-focused mix of bergamot, orange and neroli notes. Hints of spicy nutmeg, sandalwood and vetiver add a heavier, more traditional flavour to it all.
Whether he’s still hitting the nine-to-five with the same rigour as he did in his twenties, or enjoying retirement with a few hours on the fairway, it goes a long way to have a product with which he’s able to scrub off the day’s detritus. This delicate formulation features the signature scent, creates a luscious foam, and, thanks to its incorporation of olive oil, helps hydrate and smooth skin to a marble-like sheen.
The time-old tradition of a wet shave offers a moment of respite in a world in constant flux – the lathering of the soap; the slow, smooth strokes of the razor; the deep concentration of it all. The shaving soap here is produced with shea butter, which makes for a creamy, smooth lather, and, ultimately, a silky result. The wooden bowl, formed from renewable materials, is an added benefit.
If he has more of a penchant for oils, then Floris has niftily covered that department, too. A beautiful medley of borage, British blackcurrant and rapeseed oils soften facial hair, allowing the razor to glide with minimal effort, meanwhile sea starwort oil and vitamin E come together to act as a protective balm. It’s equally practical for those with beards, as it can also be used as a conditioner.
Cooling and calming, the collection’s Aftershave Balm eschews the use of alcohol, is thick with hops, oat and extracts of willow, and, like the above beard oil, draws upon blackcurrant and rapeseed oils to prevent dryness and irritation. The real draw, however, is the incorporation of menthol and aloe vera, which cool the face and provide a vibrant feel to the complexion.
Then, of course, let him tie up his morning grooming routine with a fine finishing touch. The benefits of this aftershave are many – it closes the pores; witch-hazel offers moisturisation; and, of course, it’s laced with the No. 89 scent – and a small dab, applied in downward strokes to the face and neck, sets the right tone for the day.
