Five Actors to Watch in 2014

Five Actors to Watch in 2014

Words: Violet

2014 looks to be another great year for film and a number of young actors, striving to become stars, have a great opportunity to join the glitterati if their films enthral at the box office. Here are five actors that I think will make waves in 2014…

Kit Harrington

Best known as Game of Thrones heartthrob Jon Snow, Harrington will surely be thinking of his career beyond the epic fantasy TV series. He has three films coming out in 2014 and his roles include the lead in Paul W. S. Anderson’s historical disaster film Pompeii.

Joel Kinnaman

After narrowly losing out to Chris Hemsworth for the lead in Thor, Kinnaman has since been waiting for his big break. He’s been cast as the RoboCop in the upcoming science fiction film RoboCop, scheduled for release in February.

Shailene Woodley

Woodley, who rose to stardom playing the lead in the hit US show The Secret Life of the American Teenager, also played Clooney’s daughter in The Descendants. She is a great example of an actress who balances more cerebral, indie projects with popcorn movies. In 2014 she has two films coming out: The Fault in Our Stars and Divergent.

Chris Pratt

The Guardians of the Galaxy is the latest film to be adapted from a comic and although it features an all-star cast, the relatively unknown Chris Pratt has been cast as the lead. Getting the lead in a comic book adaption can be a poisoned chalice as Brandon Routh of Superman Returns notoriety found out – it will be interesting to see if this film makes or breaks him.

Mackenzie Foy

Mackenzie Foy is the youngest of the five and has film experience limited to small roles in the Twilight movies and The Conjuring. I include her because she has landed a role in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar – a film guaranteed to be one of the biggest of the year.
