The start of the 2014 Formula 1 season has been nothing short of electric. The colossal new rule changes have spiced up the sport immeasurably, much to the delight of spectators and drivers alike. Whilst the engine noise is down, racing action has certainly increased and we’re not sure what we’re excited about the most; the fierce rivalry between the Mercedes boys or the joy we get from watching Vettel fail. Regardless of that though, here’s why you need to watch the Silverstone Grand Prix this weekend.

HOME RACE FOR LEWIS, Now 29 points behind his teammate Nico Rosberg, Lewis really needs a big result this weekend. He’s made it clear that he feels he has the speed advantage and, with the energy behind the home crowd at Silverstone, all the cards should be in his favour. Anything short of first place will be a failure for him.

NICO WON’T BACK DOWN, Rosberg has so far demonstrated a steely attitude and an unwavering determination to succeed during the first half of the season. Whilst his teammate has been throwing his toys out of the pram, the focussed German has been slowly increasing his Championship lead, all the while remaining the humble, personable gent that he is.

RISING STAR, Daniel Ricciardo is the only non-Mercedes driver to win a race this year. The young Australian has outclassed his teammate all year long, cementing him as a force to be reckoned with, not only for this season, but for the future too. He arguably has the best chance of upsetting Mercedes this weekend, so we’re excited to see what he can do.

THE REST OF THE PACK, Felipe Massa stunned the automotive world two weeks ago when he secured pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix. Although that was partly to do with Mercedes lack of execution, many might be questioning how long it will be before the rest of the pack catches up with them. That time could be this weekend at Silverstone. We’ll just have to wait and find out.
