In the 1930s, the first ever jet plane took flight. Across the pond, huge airships were floating passengers through the air in glamour. And aircraft had recently began transporting passengers from London to Paris. Tickets were being punched left, right and centre — and slipped back into delicate, elegant wallets.
Small leather goods of the time, including those from British luxury brand Ettinger, were crafted from goat hides. Refined and supple, it’s a material that is both thoroughly natural and ages beautifully over time. In fact, using grained goat leather is an Ettinger tradition that harks back to the brand’s foundation years.
To celebrate this travel tradition, Ettinger are revisiting the material — and have created a range of products including wallets, purses, card holders, key cases, coin purses and supped portfolios and pouches from goat hide.
The collection is available in a classic colour palette of black, nut brown and marine blue — and every product features a silver embossed Ettinger logo and HRH The Prince of Wales’ Royal Warrant cipher. But, although the Capra collection pays homage to the heritage of the brand, it is also doing something brand new…
Known for their bold, bright use of colour, this is the first time Ettinger have created a collection in simple, refined white. It is also the first time that the same colour of leather has been used on both the inside and out of an Ettinger collection, with all still featuring the signature monogrammed jacquard lining in the pockets.
The Capra collection — ‘Capra’ being the latin genus for goats — has been hand-made at Ettinger’s factory in Walsall, and the products are available in leading luxury stores in 35 countries around the world, from Hong Kong to Holland, Germany to Japan.
