The Cocktail Recipes Every Gentleman Needs To Master
Words: Alex Woodhall
Everyone loves a good cocktail and being able to mix them is a skill every gent should really have in his locker. Whether your fixing an aperitif, a nightcap for your date, or just enjoying a boozy summer’s afternoon, these are 3 cocktails recipes you should absolutely have a handle on.
So don’t get caught drinking an uncouth spirit and mixer again and learn some basic mixology before your next night in…
OLD FASHIONED

A resurgence in popularity due to the Mad Men phenomena, the old-fashioned is a whiskey based cocktail and a no-nonsense one at that. You’ll almost certainly have the ingredients to hand, and it’s actually got an alcoholic taste, as opposed to the fizzy, fruity things that cocktails have seemingly become.
The recipe you need to know:
45ml of Johnnie Walker® Black Label® Scotch
2 dashes of Angostura Bitters
A sugar cube
Lemon twist
Orange twist
Build in a rocks glass with ice, stir until frost forms on the outside of the glass. Garnish with a?lemon & orange twist.
THE NEGRONI

Born between collaborative efforts on American and Italian parts, the Negroni is a classic aperitif cocktail and the ideal drink for a summer’s evening; that’s not to say it should be reserved for both.
The recipe we recommend is:
30ml Hendrick’s Gin
30ml Cochi Sweet Vermouth
15ml Campari
15ml Aperol
Orange Segments and Zest
Combine all in mixing glass and stir to dilute over ice. Strain over fresh cubed ice in a rock glass.
THE MARTINI

The drink of choice for Mr James Bond of course, the Martini is as iconic as they come and a drink you absolutely need to know how to make, shaken or stirred. Whilst traditionally a gin-based drink, the vodka Martini remains a discerning choice for a distinguished gent.
The recipe to know is:
60ml Grey Goose® Original
15-20ml Noilly Prat® Original French Dry Vermouth
1 Dash Orange Bitters
2 Mediterranean Olives
Mix ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Add cubed ice and stir. Fine strain into a chilled cocktail glass and finally, garnish with a pair of olives.
