How you can help one of England’s fastest growing brands
Get behind one of the country's best brands, gentlemen
Words: India Gladstone
When Henry Hales launched Sir Plus six years ago, he had one aim: to create incredible clothes out of otherwise wasted surplus materials (hence the name). Starting off with just boxer shorts, over the years Henry has expanded Sir Plus to selling waistcoats, grandad collar shirts and Nehru jackets. One thing that’s instantly struck obvious about Henry is that he’s a gentleman who knows what he wants, and who isn’t afraid to go after it.
Adding to the inventory of Sir Plus has it’s obvious bonuses, but one shortfall has been the huge number of stock. After recently renting a warehouse in London to stock the goods, and without a physical shop in the pipeline any time soon, Hales was faced with a bit of a conundrum: he’d outgrown the cart he’d been selling out of on both Portobello Road and Earlham Street markets for the past 3 years.

Sir Plus isn’t just any old brand. These guys are passionate about what they do; they make all of their clothes in East London and are totally in charge of their entire stock. Hales even remembers customers; when I tell him the groom at a wedding I was at wore Sir Plus, Hales knew exactly who I meant – down his job.
With any brand, there’s going to be be that natural itch; you’ve reached a certain point and you want to keep elevating your brand, but you want to keep at the right level and not put off customers who have been loyal from the start. So how do you achieve this?
In Hales’ case, you create an incredible, state-of-the-art cart to continue showcasing your clothes at the market stalls that you’ve grown to know and love. So far, everything Sir Plus has down has been customer made – and the cart is no exception.

Designs for the cart
After months of planning, countless designs and infinite suggestions from colleagues and friends, Hales has come up with the perfect piece, but he needs your help to make his dream a reality.
Hales needs £15,000 to cover the cost of buying, building and designing the vehicle and the trailer that accompanies it. If he raises more, he’ll create another one for the second stand. Here’s exactly what he needs:

The finished cart
1. 2 foldable, six metre long canopies for the cart and trailer. They are designed to protect the clothes from poor weather, but also to provide shade for the TV monitors that’ll be on the stand.
2. 6 doors for the van. The doors must be foldable, lockable, safe and secure, to ensure the clothes are protected at all times. Including time spent exhibiting and transporting.
3. Battery powered retail lighting. This is to show off and illuminate the clothing, especially during the winter markets when it gets dark earlier.
4. Hanging space for 150 garments.
5. Covers, to protect our stock whilst in transit.
6. Shelving space, so our packaged garments (including jumpers, boxers, pocket squares) can be displayed effectively.
7. TV monitors – to display product imagery.
8. Admin desk for processing orders and packing.
9. Sir Plus signage.
10. A list of fixtures and fittings long enough to bore a solicitor.
