The Best Moments of the 2014 Oscars

Last night, the 2014 Academy Awards took place in Los Angeles and normally quite stuffy and formal event made way to a few laughs. Viral trends such as selfies and photobombs were celebrated to the max with host Ellen Degeneres anchoring the whole night brilliantly. 12 Years a Slave won the biggest accolade of the night, Best Picture, making it the first winner of this category in Academy history to ever have been directed by a black filmmaker. Gravity was the most plentiful winner of the night with 7 Oscars, with Dallas Buyers Club and 12 Years a Slave both securing 3 each.

THE BEST SELFIE EVER (AND IT BROKE TWITTER)

Host Ellen Degeneres took a photo, or ‘selfie’, with Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and Meryl Streep. Ellen then posted it on her Twitter page. The internet then went mental. At 2,415,167 Retweets (and counting) it is the most retweeted tweet in history.

PHARRELL WORE SHORTS WITH HIS TUX.. AND IT WAS AWFUL

This got a lot of hate on our Twitter and we are not surprised. Butchering a beautiful Lanvin tux, not very gentlemanly at all.

ELLEN’S OPENING MONOLOGUE, , ELLEN GOT EVERYONE PIZZA

It was delivered by a real pizza delivery man, tips were collected in Pharrell infamous Vivienne Westwood hat and Brad Pitt gave out plates. Amazing.

BRITAIN RULED THE NIGHT

With 12 Years a Slave picking up the biggest award of the night, Best Picture, and Gravity winning 7 Oscars in total (all of the visual effects and production were done by British studios), it was a good night for British film.
