The best dressed gentlemen of 2014

The best dressed gentlemen of 2014

The year 2014 was great for men’s style, with a number of exciting new brands popping up as well as numerous store openings all over the UK. Menswear is no longer a path chosen by a select few, it has indeed become a mainstream phenomenon. Here are the best dressed gentlemen of 2014.

10. SIR PAUL SMITH

Always well turned-out, Sir Paul Smith is one of the real ace faces in menswear. Perhaps the most stylish sexagenarian around, he favours crisp, classic suiting paired with the odd quirky accessory.

9. BILL NIGHY

Rivalling Mr Smith in the style stakes though, and at only three years younger (65), is Bill Nighy. Keeping a reserved colour palette, mostly blues and greys, he manages to look effortlessly cool wherever he goes.

8. BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH

Much has been noted of Benedict Cumberbatch’s acting skill, yet his dress sense is just as impressive. Quintessentially British and immaculately well-groomed, he regularly dons some of the most exquisite, classically cut suits on the red carpet.

7. OLIVER CHESHIRE

Young British model, Oliver Cheshire, has been on our style radar for a while now and he continues to impress with his ability to dress up or down with aplomb.

6. TINIE TEMPAH

Whilst perhaps a little daring for some, there’s no denying Tinie’s style credentials. He’s a master of great fit, knowing exactly what flatters his short body-frame, which is a skill we should all practice.

5. TOM FORD

best dressed - TGJ.07

The master of evening wear, Tom Ford, never looks anything less than splendid. Notice the cut of his jackets; strong shoulders, wide peak lapels giving the impression of a broader chest, high arm holes and fitted sleeves. Perfection.

4. EDDIE REDMAYNE

best dressed - TGJ.08

Eddie Redmayne is another young gun to follow on the red carpet. There’s no doubt we’ll be seeing more and more of him, and we can’t complain if he keeps dressing this well. We’re particularly fond of the casual, middle look here. If you’re looking to up your smart-casual game, a pair of brown tailored trousers are a safe yet underused bet.

3. TOM HIDDLESTON

best dressed - TGJ.02

Tom Hiddleston looks cool no matter what he wears. Here he dresses down the three-piece suit by forgoing a tie, perfect for warmer climes such as Cannes.

2. DAVID GANDY

Another big face in menswear, and particularly around London Collections: Men, is David Gandy. His style in both casual and formal situations is truly enviable, sending photographers into a craze on a regular basis.

1. DAVID BECKHAM

Although he has made a number of garish mistakes in the past, David Beckham’s style has really flourished, especially since he’s retired from professional football. Forgoing a stylist, he wears a suit with more elán than most, yet his casual looks are just as on point. He’s our best dressed man of 2014.
