Apple’s Blatant Dig At Samsung With ‘Earth Day’ Advert
Words: Violet

As the 19th century English cleric and writer, Charles Caleb Colton, once said “Imitation is the highest form of flattery”. Apple, however, might disagree on this one and as their latest advert would imply (whilst jokily), such imitation is something the iconic company are becoming all too familiar with. Apple have accused various rivals over the years of copying their designs, and who can blame then when the similarities are quite so blatant? Samsung Android anyone?
This isn’t the first time that Apple have made an all-too playful dig at competitor companies. In 2005, whilst announcing their new Mac operating system, they hung banners at the developers conference that read “Redmond, start your photocopiers” (Redmond being home to the Microsoft headquarters). This particular advert on the back of this morning’s Metro was brilliantly spotted by journalist David McClelland, and has caused quite a stir so far today. The advert in question reads, “There are some ideas we want every company to copy”, and it doesn’t take a genius to work out that this is a not-so-subtle dig at Samsung (who they are in an ongoing patent trial with) and basically every other tech company in the world (who have no doubt copied Apple at one point or another), whilst simultaneously promoting their new ‘green’ message. We think it’s pretty funny and have to hand it to Apple on this one, although no doubt the bosses over at Samsung have had a slightly different reaction!
