Style – A Long Summer Day

Words: Violet

The main fashion story in our glorious summer issue took its inspiration from the quintessential British summertime experience. Shot in beautiful Hampshire, the atmosphere conjures up an English summer in Brideshead Revisited, perhaps, or an Ian Fleming novel. Drenched in sun, glamorous girls in red lipstick recline poolside, occasionally dipping their toes into the cooling water. Dapper men vroom up in vintage cars to play croquet and fool around in the sun. Hazy heat pervades, the perfect place for sipping champagne. Perhaps a game of tennis – after a quick dip. Or a long walk through water meadows to the perfect spot for a summer picnic – under a willow tree, by the river. Crab sandwiches and gin and tonics. An early evening campari and soda in the garden followed by a long, luxurious candle-lit supper. Girls in light summer dresses in pastel shades. Men in crisp but relaxed daytime clothes. Plenty of room for movement, for the odd spurt of energy. Comfortable and light for all of that lazing around. Effortless yet artful. That is what the English summer is all about.
