5 Movie Reboots You Have To Watch

The biggest trend in Hollywood at the moment is rebooting and remaking past franchises, taking advantage of all the technical and cinematic advancements heralded since their initial release. From classic ‘80s horror to iconic ‘90s sci-fi, these are the 5 movie reboots you won’t want to miss out on.

JURASSIC WORLD

Starring Chris Pratt, fresh from his hugely successful 2014, the Jurassic park franchise is being restarted, 14 years after the last instalment. The films got progressively worse after the initial 1993 release but dare we say it, this latest chapter is looking rather good. Developments in special effects have certainly helped this one, it’s set for release in June of this year.

POLTERGEIST

Sam Raimi, the brains behind the likes of Drag Me to Hell (2009) and cult classic Evil Dead (1981), among many others, is contemporising the classic 1982 horror flick. If the teaser trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to do the original proud. With a July release scheduled and a talented ensemble behind it, Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt star, we look forward to hiding behind our hands all the way to the end.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS

Arnold Schwarzenegger, reprises his role as a now aging Terminator and yes he does say, “I’ll be back”. Also starring Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clark, the latest addition to the franchise is set in a new timeline and involves some sort of time-travel, whilst these two are hardly ever contusive to a good film or plot, Terminator 5 may well buck this trend. The expected slew of explosions, fancy lighting and robots will, at the very least, make this an enjoyable action film, even if the plot turns out to be flimsy, the release date is July 2015.

FANTASTIC FOUR

The first two films in the marvel franchise (2005 and 2007) were flops to say the least, joining the list of superhero movies in the 2000s that fell flat. Ensemble hero movies have been rejuvenated however, with the success of The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, the rebooted Fantastic Four could well follow in their footsteps.

The teaser trailer hints at a grittier approach than 10 years ago which is backed up by an exciting cast featuring Kate Mara and Michael B. Jordan, pencil the 6 August in for this one.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

The 1979 Australian dystopian classic is being remade with Tom Hardy taking over from Mel Gibson as Max, whilst Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult also star. The trailer doesn’t give away too much in the way of plot points but it does feature plenty of action and quirks, traits the original trilogy was praised so highly for. With the original writer, director and now producer George Miller returning to head this one, the expectations for the film are high and we’d be shocked if they weren’t realised. Mad Max: Fury Road is to be released on 15 May.
