Ah new year’s, the only date of the year where glutton is followed by restriction and resolution. The eve of the 31st is spent excessively drinking, eating and spending yet fast forward a couple of hours and we suddenly make a promise to give up all those vices we so enjoy.
It won’t surprise any of our readers that as a population we are very bad at sticking to new year’s resolutions. Part of the problem is that there is no end or target date, therefore, most of us will inevitably break them at some point or another. Another issue is the magnitude of our resolutions, all too often we simply bite off more than we can chew. Finally, it’s the contrived pressure of 1st January. The fact that we forced to make try and make a change in our lives means that we are very rarely actually ready to attempt our resolutions.
The other trend is that a lot of us pick the same ones. Here are our most popular new year’s resolutions. Do any of them sound familiar.
1. Lose weight
2. Quit smoking
3. Improve personal financial management
4. Reduce alcohol intake
5. Improve healthy eating
6. Get fit
7. Get a new job/change job
8. Do more travelling
9. Get more sleep
10. Be more philanthropic
