O Rolex Daytona da lenda da F1 Jean-Pierre Jabouille será leiloado pela Phillips em Nova Iorque
Jean-Pierre Jabouille fez história na Fórmula 1 ao vencer o Grande Prémio de França de 1979 num carro equipado com turbocompressor, um feito que abriu indubitavelmente caminho para o futuro da modalidade. Agora, pela primeira vez, uma parte dessa história está à venda.

A leiloeira Phillips, em Nova Iorque, anunciou a venda de um histórico Rolex Cosmograph «Big Red» Daytona Ref. 6265, que o fabricante automóvel Renault ofereceu a Jean-Pierre Jabouille após a sua vitória triunfal no Grande Prémio de França de 1979. O Rolex assinalou tanto a primeira vitória de sempre da empresa na modalidade como a primeira vitória de sempre de um automóvel e de uma equipa de competição franceses. Para realçar a importância de tal feito, a Renault gravou uma emotiva dedicatória no verso da caixa do relógio, onde se lia: «DIE TO DRIVE – RENAULT F1 – J.P.J. 79».
O relógio foi estimado por Jabouille até à sua morte, em 2023, e desde então tem permanecido na família Jabouille. Será apresentado em The New York Watch Auction: XII nos dias 7 e 8 de junho, estimando-se que alcance um valor entre 50 000 e 100 000 dólares. O relógio é acompanhado por uma nota manuscrita de Victor, filho de Jabouille, que teve recentemente a oportunidade de conduzir no Circuito Paul Ricard o Renault RS10 do pai, o carro que Jabouille pilotou no Grande Prémio de França, em 1979.
The watch offered by Phillips is far more than a mere timepiece; it is a symbol of Jabouille’s trailblazing spirit. In his letter, Victor Jabouille writes, "I remember vividly the day he told me the story of this watch. It wasn’t just about winning, it was about daring to believe in something revolutionary, about refusing to accept the limits. That spirit, ‘Die to Drive’, is engraved on the case, but it’s also engraved in our family’s legacy.”
The manual-winding Daytona reference 6265 was launched in the late 1960s and ceased production in 1987. This version has a robust Oyster case that’s dated to 1972 and is fitted with its original and extremely desirable ‘millerighe’ mark I pushers. Indeed, it is a highly sought after timepiece for its incredible technical prowess, but the ultimate draw is its emotional and historical significance. A cherished trophy for Jean-Pierre Jabouille and his family, this historic Daytona will now serve as the ultimate award for the discerning watch collector.
